We hope our panel of speakers will give current Caltech undergraduates, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows the opportunity to learn from and network with women in science from across the LA area and in different STEM careers.

Spring into STEM at Caltech	Apr. 27, 2024 at 1:00 pm	Beckman Mall	Joint organization with WiC, WiEAS, WinG. Spring into STEM at Caltech is an event co-organized between the many women's groups accross campus. We are inviting local Girl Scout Cadettes onto campus to introduce them to STEM. WiBBE will have a booth and we plan to have some demos/activities. You can get involved with planning demos/activities for the division, and/or help out on the day.
PUSD Science Fest	Mar. 16, 2024 at 12:00 pm	John Muir High School	The main aims of the event are 1) to inform and inspire PUSD students and their families about the opportunities for STEM, computing and environmental based careers in the region, and 2) to show the educational and career pathways and support systems available to them. The PUSD public schools have a high proportion of students that are socio-economically deprived, have special needs or are in the foster care system.

Come to chat about her work, discuss what it's like balancing motherhood and academia, how to solve the two body (faculty) problem, or just to enjoy some coffee!

DEI Informal Seminar: "Human Rights of Women and Girls in China"	May. 22, 2023 at 1:30 pm	Hameetman Conference Room	Wen Chen (Ph.D. 00) from Caltech Women in BBE will give an overview of the current human rights situation of women and girls in China. Chen, a long-term activist for Amnesty International, prepared this presentation for Washburn University Women's and Gender Study as a guest speaker. The event is free and open to the public, sponsored by Caltech BBE DEI, Center for Inclusion and Diversity, and Women in Biology and Biological Engineering.

Meet-the-Speaker: Prof. Gwyneth Card	Mar. 21, 2023 at 11:00 am	Morgan Library	Card’s lab studies in the neural mechanisms and circuit architectures that underlie visually guided behavioral choices in the fly. Specifically, Card and her team study Drosophila escape behavior.
WiBBE x Green Labs Succulent Planting and Happy Hour	Mar. 16, 2023 at 4:00PM	Chen Sunken Garden	This event is being hosted in collaboration with a new organization in BBE, Caltech Green Labs, and with support from USA Scientific. USA Scientific will supply old pipette tip boxes, soil, and succulents in an effort demonstrate one way we can reduce the waste we produce in lab. Green Labs will also have a table set up to explain who they are, what their mission is, and to show off some of the environmentally conscious lab products they’ve found as they’ve been working to make BBE a greener division. Samples of the products being shown off by Green Labs will be available for you to take and try out in your lab and everyone at the event will be entered into a raffle to win a Green Labs product. Meet-the-Speaker: Prof. Paola Arlotta	Feb. 7, 2023 at 9:00 am	Morgan Library	The Arlotta Lab seeks to define the molecular rules that shape and retain neuronal diversity in the cerebral cortex, and to model complex human cortical pathology, focusing on the development of new high-throughput in vitro models of human cortical development and neurodevelopmental disease using 3D cerebral organoids.

Meet-the-Speaker: Prof. Paloma Gonzalez-Bellido	Feb. 4, 2020 at 10:00AM	Morgan Library	Dr. Gonzalez-Bellido is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ecology, Evolution and Behavior at University of Minnesota. Her lab studies vision and behavior in flying predatory insects! One of the species she studies is the robber fly, which has been called the "top gun of the insect world."
Meet-the-Speaker: Prof. Yukiko Yamashita	Jan. 28, 2020 at 10:00AM	Morgan Library	Meet with next week's general biology seminar speaker, Dr. Yukiko Yamashita. Dr. Yamashita is the James Playfair McMurrich Collegiate Professor of the Life Sciences at the University of Michigan. Her lab seeks to understand the mechanisms that regulate asymmetric stem cell division — which are poorly understood and have implications for cancer and other diseases.
